Parappa the Rapper has always been extremely popular in Japan, and that's thanks to some extremely well thought-out marketing by Sony. Both "Crash Bandicoot" and "Parappa the Rapper" had a fierce battle to win the title of "Official Playstation Mascot" in the early days of the Playstation console. In the end, none of them won and the lovable cat "Toro" became their Japanese mascot, even today.
